Pros

The interpersonal culture was fantastic: everyone was considerate, and the company had some excellent initiatives during the pandemic. The executives communicated regularly.

Cons

I feel they were going through growing pains: practices that work in a 10-person startup rarely scale to 1000 people, and Airtable had more than a few of those. As an SRE / DevOps / Production Engineer, their deployment stack was idiosyncratic, and it seems the senior engineers wanted it to stay that way. Additionally, they did not offer any formal compensation for going oncall outside business hours.

Pros

Office culture is amazing - dedicated "culture ambassadors" (a recruiter and engineer) plan events in the NYC office , and they're doing an amazing job, not to mention daily interactions and lunches with a strong in-office presence. Coworkers on my team are incredibly smart, kind, and thoughtful. In my experience, there is a total absence of known smart but "difficult" people, which is unheard of. Really interesting, technically deep projects, since we are fundamentally a data company. Perks and benefits are great. One of the rare tech companies that still seems to have all the right values regarding DEI, work life balance, and keeping its employees happy.

Cons

Not sure what the outlook is on the future of AI - we're certainly at a major inflection point with a new CTO and a lot of AI initiatives, and it remains to be seen how it goes. Quality of managers seems to be mixed. High management turnover, but that's the industry right now.

Pros

- great flexible product, heavily dogfooded - generally nice and smart coworkers - all my EMs have been great - comp and benefits are good

Cons

- codebase is pretty heavyweight, a large monorepo - distributed and remote-friendly company means you don't get much face time with many of your coworkers - recent wave of departures and re-orgs has been a bit chaotic
