Bleak future under private equity - Salaried Employee Alkegen Employee Review

Pros

The company's products are highly technical and provide for solid profits. There's a lot of opportunity for growth in new products and markets. Workplace environment is casual and respectful for salaried staff. For salaried staff not involved in day-to-day manufacturing operations, good work/life balance, flexibility, and "unlimited PTO".

Cons

Currently operating under severe spending cuts, seemingly for no other reason than to line the pockets of the private equity owners. Corporate appears to be perfectly OK with a run-to-failure maintenance strategy, causing unnecessary downtime & stress from things breaking; You can't call yourself a world-class operation with this being acceptable. Little to no support from corporate for making improvements because it costs money. Location has had several salaried staff quit in the past few months. Turnover is becoming a problem. Currently no HR staff or Maintenance management. Many hourly production workers toil for 12hrs/day, 6days/week with no end. Low morale on the floor and lots of safety incidents.

Pros

There are some good people at Alkegen who really want to make a difference. Too bad those individuals aren't in senior leadership.

Cons

Alkegen's biggest con is its senior leadership and how they create a toxic work environment of micro managing their subordinates. I've seen some very toxic behaviors from leadership that I've never seen before in my career. I understand getting the job done, but people do have lives outside of work, and leadership doesn't seem to care at all. After dedicating your entire life to Alkegen, management decides no one gets a bonus next year. Besides that, their benefits were terrible, only offering a high deducible PPO with a small contribution to an HSA. My copay and deductible went through the roof. The unlimited PO is not really unlimited, since you're never allowed to disconnect since you're not afforded a work-life balance.
