Pros

Working remotely full time is really nice if you can leverage it. The benefits were actually pretty decent. 4 weeks PTO

Cons

Managers were generally very petty about every tiny little thing and more than a few managers were strongly led around by their emotions, which led you to walk on eggshells around management and hope they weren't having a bad day. Employees, in general, dehumanized the contractors we were in charge of. It was rare that we knew the names of any of the workers we were in charge of. We just referred to them with the disembodied term: "the workers", not Anna, or Stephen, or Paul - just "the workers". There is a mountain of technical debt to yet be paid off. The code base is a scary place to see. The pay is the same if you live in Oklahoma or LA, so if you live in a high COL area, please find employment elsewhere, because they will not pay you enough to live on. Management is not trained on how to be good or even competent managers. Either they will use borderline unethical and outright creepy methods to micromanage you into the ground, or they will treat you like we treated "the workers" - we were just faceless numbers providing data. When they are done with you, you are unceremoniously tossed out in the sloppiest, most unprofessional fashion. It would be understandable if your mental health suffered as a result of being under this kind of toxicity. The whole company is a disorganized mess. Yes my review is heavily biased, but it really truly is a mess.

Pros

The work tasks are relatively clear, and my colleagues are very friendly and always offer help when I don't understand something. The company's policies and culture are also very transparent.

Cons

Sometimes due to urgent work delivery timelines.

Pros

Working at home on the computer.

Cons

Lack of proper communication. No phone communication whatsoever, only by sending in tickets and emails. They hired me for a project for me to review advertisements and I worked hard at this task and always looked back at the materials as a guideline to keep all my answers as per how they want them to be. However, this was not good enough for them and I was retested. Of course, I knew they would fail the retest and fire me immediately. In addition, I have been putting in my house on my time sheet and they have not paid me once. They claim I will be paid for the hours I billed for but I have not seen any money yet. I am giving up on seeing any pay and my working with Appen has been a total waste of my time when I could have been putting in my efforts working for someone else.
