Pros

- Initially a rewarding role, learned a lot at high speed - Initially transparent business goals and practices, that were followed up as discussed - Initially good culture, people actually cared about you (at least thats how it felt) Notice a trend with the first word?

Cons

- Co-founders moved on and replaced with generic CEO who is uninspiring and secretive - Role as a developer shrunk in responsibilities as time went on, ie. They appreciated my work and input at first but as the company grew to over 200 people that recognition rapidly faded away and typical business bureaucracy prevented me from moving upwards in my role. - Promotions toward the end of my time there definitely played favorites over people who actually do the work.

Pros

Appfire has a strong remote-first culture. People are trusted to own their work, and there's a genuine effort to support work-life balance rather than just talk about it. The company values are embedded in our daily work and it's regularly seen when collaborating across departments and countries. Leadership encourages curiosity and continuous improvement, and there are plenty of opportunities to take on new challenges and grow your skills. I can honestly say that this is the brightest group of people I've ever seen at an organization. The global nature of the company also means you get exposure to different perspectives and ways of working. Appfire emphasizes flexibility, employee development, and a people-first culture.

Cons

Like many fast-growing companies, priorities can shift quickly, and keeping up with organizational changes can sometimes be challenging. Working across multiple time zones requires flexibility, and communication can occasionally take longer when coordinating globally. There is a lot of opportunity, but that can also mean balancing priorities. It's no secret that these challenges are present but the same would be true for any global organization.
