At this point they're is no Pros to being a server at Benihana As upper management of the one group has shown they do not care about their servers!
Cons
Everything about this job is a con.... In the literal meaning of the word, there is no automatic gratuity, and you will get stiffed many times throughout a week. And you will still be required to tip out the checks you get stiffed on so the chefs will make all of the money and you will work your butt off and walk away with almost nothing. Many times you have checks that are $300 to $400 and tips that are from $0 to $20 on those checks. Yet you still have to pay $30 to $40 from your pocket to the chef even if the guest does not tip you! You get double sat which is unrealistic to be able to provide great service all the time, run out of such simple things as forks, spoons and glasses during your shift, every night is a nightmare as all the company cares about is making money. They have a points-based system that if you don't sell enough of the limited time offered drinks, wagyu steaks, push the loyalty program, solicit reviews, etc. You're in Jeopardy of losing shifts on the future schedules. You will be lucky to make 8% of your sales in tips by the end of any given night and in most cases you make make more likely 5 to 6% by the time you tip out the chefs for the tables that have stiffed you. The chefs make $15 to $18 per hour plus $3 per meal. Get to keep all side tips they get and get 9% of the sales from you and tips whether you get tipped or not ! The company has refused to add gratuity to any tables unless it's 20 or more people sat which is ridiculous....the company does not care about their servers at all so I would never recommend this job to anybody
