Pros

The job itself is fairly simple and satisfying. You get the opportunity to help others, you have a lot of freedom to resolve customer issues in the way you see fit and fair to both the company and the customer. You are given plenty of training not only when you join the company but as well as ongoing training. They have many supportive opportunities such as health advancement with both healthy tips and recipes and community support. The people working for Overstock.com are friendly and diverse, you feel welcome and respected for who you are by your co-workers. There is room for advancement if you are interested and qualified. The benefits are great. Overall, the environment is wonderful as far as the atmosphere and the co-workers. The Customer Service community is fun, open, welcoming and warm.

Cons

It is very difficult to get positive feedback and you will always be informed of areas you need to improve in. Though there are plenty of job advancements available, it is very difficult to get one of these positions without knowing the right people. There is very little flexibility as far as time off for personal reasons that you may feel are important. There is not a strong feeling of connection or or openness with management. There is no opinion or feedback sharing ability, complaints are frowned upon. It is made clear that if you do not meet all expectations for any reason that there are plenty of others to fill your position. There seems to be a large communication gap between the employees and management as you have nowhere to give feedback on improvements that can be made, complaints that you want to be left anonymously etc. Management does not seem to apply the "open door" policy that most companies do as offering opinions and complaints leave one a bit "flagged." As long as you just do your job and don't try to change or address anything, you will do well with this company. If you want to offer changes, improvements, share opinions and such, this is not the place for it. You are not given a voice without repercussions.

Pros

Fast paced environment with LOTS of hands-on experience with many different tools. The people are the reason to stay, lots of smart and caring people, managers, and leaders towards the bottom of the food chain.

Cons

Upper Management has completely destroyed this company and gutted it. In my several years at the company, communication is as poor as it could be. Bonuses are promised and then not followed up on. RIFs happen far too frequently. It is abundantly clear that this company does NOT care about it's employees, and at the moment is almost seems like they are trying as hard as they can to get people to quit so they don't have to pay severances before acquiring more companies and moving headquarters to Texas. The culture in the days of Overstock was incredible, it made people excited about being able to work there. Now people are hanging on by threads, large teams are now carried on the backs of just 1-2 people without additional pay as we see co-workers get laid off left and right. It is not sustainable. Important things are being missed because there are not enough people to do the work, which will end up biting the company in the butt for compliance and finance reasons.
