Fulfilling Work With No Support - Counselor Center For Discovery Employee Review

Pros

The clients are wonderful and most of my co-workers were excellent, committed caring people. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure the clients were safe and felt supported in their journey. Meals are also provided, which can sort of be a plus.

Cons

Management is a disaster. Inappropriate comments are often made about employees' clothing and personal eating habits under the guise of "professionalism". There is no formal policy about self-disclosure which leaves everyone in a murky middle space. Facility Managers and Counselors alike are underpaid and overworked, leaving everyone stretched to their limit. The facility only has a nurse on staff for 4 hours/day and there is no overnight nurse and only one overnight counselor. The facility does not have an AED which is especially nerve-wracking when everyone is at such cardiac risk. The training is minimal and not paid. Vacation time is technically acrued, but never given. Employees are expected to work themselves to the bone all for the sake of the clients, which helps no one in the end.

Amazing leadership and supportive atmosphere

Cons

Requires a lot of problem solving and can be stressful when the census is high. Definitely a learning curve to this job.

The clinical team frequently altered rules and protocols, and minimal guidance.
