Wood River Refinery pays well, but fails to have a good work-life balance for its employees. - Operations Engineer ConocoPhillips Employee Review

Pros

The high salary, the chance to make changes that have a lot of monetary value.

Cons

The lack of work/life balance. I worked 45 days straight of 10-12 hour days and only got 5 days of comp time. However, getting any comp time is atypical. Typically no comp time is given for having to work late or on weekends. The lack of business sense is frustrating. We spend a lot of time trying to save money and do the bare minimum to fix the problem. Then shortly thereafter we have to spend twice the money and time to reapply the band aid. Then we go on to the next fire to fight.

Pros

The culture is incredible, everyone is very kind and willing to help with questions. Interns get to work on real, valuable projects over the summer. Lots of fun events.

Cons

Slight worry about job security/relocation

Pros

Friendly company, cares about safety.

Cons

Extremely disorganized after 2025 layoffs. Lots of experienced staff left, leaving lots of gaps. They can't decide if they want to operate like a lean independent or a supermajor which means they want things done yesterday but still while following 1,000s of pages of guidelines and procedures.
