Pros
Before the commodity price downturn, I found the company an excellent, friendly place to work. Older colleagues were welcoming, patient and willing to spend time with the new-hire engineers to get them up to speed. The salary and benefits I considered generous.
Cons
Once it became clear that layoffs were impending, we all lived under this threat for many, many months and the stress affected work and relationships. These circumstances are not unique to this company, but the manner in which layoffs were conducted here was particularly brutalizing and insensitive and the decisions concerning who stayed and who was laid off seemed particularly arbitrary, i.e. some very strong, motivated performers were shown the door while some mediocre talents remained. My lasting impression is that shareholders are of singular importance whereas employees are expendable...a very shortsighted approach. Not all companies take this view.
