Pros
Easy Job Good compensation (OT definitely helps) Most co-workers are good to work with Scheduled days allow for every other weekend off
Cons
Shift supervisors do not care about correctional officers' personal problems. If you're sick that day and call out of shift, you will be "PSNd" or written up even if it is your first time calling out of shift. 16 hour shifts are always mandated due to short staffing issues which causes people to burn out and quit faster than new recruits come in. Inmates appear to be more of a priority than the actual correctional officers that work there as they allow 1 correctional officer on the floor during night shift to enter 80+ man housing pods al the while carrying the keys that open and close all doors in that unit. Leaving 1 floor officer to do this in each unit is highly dangerous and puts the correctional officer and facility at risk of more incidents.
