Pros

There are a lot of good, qualified, and invested people doing quality work here on both technical and project management sides. Management seems pretty committed to providing a positive environment for workers. There's pretty decent opportunity to evolve and change your role as you learn new things and become exposed to different responsibilities. Working in downtown Oakland is pretty cool. From what I saw, there was a lot of freedom to have your own work/life balance

Cons

Has a pretty corporate feel even for all the effort to make it not feel that way. Not a lot workplace culture developed. Biggest con for me (as a technical person) was being drawn into projects where my role was initially scoped as technical/analytical support, but ending up having to do all manner of handling client relationships, writing memos, etc. This was a big turnoff for me, since context switching was often whiplash-inducing. In general having an hours-based consulting model for the parts of my work that were actually technical also got frustrating, since it typically prevents you from tackling big projects holistically and forces you to focus only on being able to execute modular chunks, each of which has to justify itself to the client. (This is probably relevant to consulting in general, though) There were occasional last minute "did I not tell you I have this thing due to a client tomorrow? Well I have this thing due to a client tomorrow and you're the only person who can help me do it. So get me this thing done by the end of today oh and by the way you can only bill one hour to it" situations which are also very unpleasant and stressful, especially when requested at 8pm. It's a bit disingenuous to say there's a no limit vacation policy and also have a soft billable hours target for departments that's just over 40hrs/week for 50 weeks/year

Pros

The ostensible mission seemed lofty, lots of mechanisms to help employees discuss why a seemingly flat organization is actually riddled with hierarchies and old boys' club mentality

Cons

I had hoped against hope that this would be a dream job, and that is certainly how recruiters try to sell it: great mission with great people who have *great* kindergarten skills. What I found was that there was a lot of lying by the management team, lying on performance appraisals and lying about the lying. I'm not totally unsympathetic: office politics can get complicated and people want to protect their own livelihoods against external pressures. But if you are going to lie about basic terms of employment and your review process, don't slap yourself on the back about the team player that you are.
