All the negative reviews that mention the 2040 hours are spot on, so I am going to address to the Energy Solutions response to these criticisms, which states, "We are addressing the misconception that working 2040 hours is a company requirement, rather than a target number. Our policy guarantees a minimum of four weeks paid time off. " A minimum of four weeks paid time off sounds nice until you realize that federal holidays and most egregiously, sick days, are included in those four weeks. And if you do decide to take all twenty of those days off, then you will need to work 42.5 hours a week to hit 2040 hours. You can say it's not a requirement all you want, but by HR's own admission, "At your department and Director’s discretion, bonus or compensation increases could be tied to working hours." So you're free to work (only!) 40 hours a week but it could prevent you from advancing in your career and negatively affect your livelihood. To put it another way, you will be rewarded for overworking yourself. In a time when many "people first" companies are adopting unlimited PTO policies, Energy Solutions decided to effectively take away a week of their employees' PTO. Aside from the hours policy, internal communications are confusing. As a new employee coming to ES from a different sector, they didn't do enough to educate me on what the company actually does and how it is done. There was a new hire presentation that tried to educate us, but it used industry acronyms and terms I was unfamiliar with. It took almost a year for me to feel comfortable with all the terms and processes. It also took almost a year from my initial request to when HR assigned me a mentor, at which point I didn't really need one anymore. My advice to any new hires who are confused is to watch as many of the training videos as you can, even ones that aren’t related to your role.
