The company has taken a very negative turn at the beginning of the year. The CEO and original founder (Shegun) suddenly and abruptly “left” and was replaced immediately by a new CEO with no notice. It seemed like the new CEO was recruited by the private equity investors. There were extremely aggressive revenue goals that pushed all of the teams beyond capacity and has had a negative impact on employee’s mental health (which is ironic considering the mission is supposedly serving the underserved and helping the mental health industry).
The leadership doesn’t seem to really understand the customer base and audience, or the employees for that matter. It’s a bunch of companies that got acquired mashed into one, so it is still in the growth stage and there are a lot of growing pains.
Leadership bungled the Black Lives Matter and George Floyd response and initially refused to say that black lives matter. It made a lot of them uncomfortable. Senior leadership only changed course when employees collectively put a lot of pressure on them from inside.
Now during the pandemic they have had price increases and are attempting to extract greater profits from telehealth to satisfy investors.
A lot of the original team are leaving or being forced to leave due to the negative changes.
A lot of us who actually do the hard work believe deeply in therapy and mental health. That’s why we got into the industry in the first place. It is heartbreaking to see the company betray trust and stray so far from what we should be all about. There is so much potential at this company, and I hope it reverses course and gets better.
