Pros

The company will take employees with little or no experience. The company invests a lot in training new employees during the first few months. It is a good place to get some general training and then spend a few months or maybe a year gaining experience and more training before moving on.

Cons

The company only wants to hire and keep young employees. The job can frequently have long (12 hour or more) days and weekends on short notice and 9-10 hour days are normal. The HR philosophy is to push employees for more and more effort until they leave and can be replaced with younger and cheaper employees. It is a very poor place to work if you want to spend any time with family or other non-work obligations because of the lack of a work life balance. The company is primary using ancient technology (will be primarily using VB 6 for many years to come), though a small number of employees do get to work with the latest technologies. The company makes it very difficult to leave since very outdated technology that does not transfer to other job, the company has a strict policy against giving references that threatens to fire any coworker serving as a reference, and a restrictive employment agreement. The long term outlook is poor since the company is also facing the ending of the Meaningful Use boom and the results of poor management decisions.

Pros

Impact: You are part of creating systemic level change for healthcare organizations. You get to be on site and work directly with providers and see how these changes impact their communities. People: Extremely smart and capable. I feel like I can rely on my team in a way I haven't at previous employers. New hires are entry level, so there's a strong community for people in a similar stage of life. Culture: Quirky but in a real, unique way. People are collaborative and celebrate shared accomplishments. The campus enshrines a very specific (and fun!) vibe. Location: Madison is awesome. Benefits: The health insurance is unparalleled. Sabbatical is a super cool perk too. Growth: A lot of autonomy and responsibility allows people to rise to the challenge. Stability: Solid industry, no lay-offs.

Cons

Remote work flexibility: 5 days a year
