Pros

Co-workers are generally knowledgeable, helpful and friendly

Cons

Overpromise and underdeliver summarizes the experience of the rotational program--there was no real guidance/mentorship available as well as a lack of interesting and rewarding job openings in desirable locations upon the program's completion. Previous work experience outside the utility industry is generally disregarded and obsequiousness is the key to advancement/promotion here. Management is overwhelmed with meetings and is generally unavailable unresponsive and arrogant. and the work environment is extremely impersonal. Last but certainly not least are the long hours and miles spent traveling to and attending 'mandatory' safety and training meetings, many of which are in Connecticut--the 'center' of the company's service territory.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Normal vacation. Interesting job, meaning it’ll keep you mind sharp.

Cons

There are no goals or expectations set that allows you to prove you’re ready for growth. The only way to advance your career is to be one of the cool guys OR work 16 hours a day and weekends. Bonuses and merit increase is the same across the board no matter how much extra you do. The work force is too small for customer/management and the expectations are set too high. There are not enough vehicles for the work force and often times trainees have no way of getting to the job site. We would run out of stock items (cable, wire, connections, transformer, safety gear) that are necessary to keep the power on. Our best coworkers have left for biggest competitor…me too.
