Pros
ExpandED Schools is a trusted and respected name in NYC public education, and there are some genuinely great people working there. Benefits are decent, schedules are flexible, work/life balance is excellent, and the work is inspiring. The staff is diverse across racial, ethnic, gender and economic lines and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the work.
Cons
There have been a number of disruptive leadership transitions over the last few years as the organization struggles to define its vision for moving forward, and it has taken its toll. Many longtime staffers with deep institutional knowledge have recently left. There has been a lot of turmoil and turnover in the last year especially. Through all of this, employees continue to be underpaid with no clear or consistent pathways to advancement. The organization is underfunded and cutting a lot of corners.
