Pros

The Toronto office of Fragomen has a rare collegiality amongst both lawyers and staff alike that makes it a great place to work at any point of one's legal career. The clientele is top tier and with the amount of autonomy given to even junior associates, it affords an amazing opportunity to hone client-facing and team-building skill sets that lawyers typically may not encounter until well into their practice. There is a culture of improvement and adaptation within the office and individuals within senior management that gives me confidence the office is headed in the right direction.

Cons

The work is fast-paced and the clientele, demanding, which can be stressful. With the autonomy comes also a need for the associates themselves to carve out a pace and workload that is sustainable for them, often against the tide once one's book of business has been established.

Pros

Decent overtime pay. I also had a decent training/onboarding experience, but this was not the norm.

Cons

Exploitative, 80+ hour work weeks, 2am messages from attorneys, burn-out model for paralegals and associates (scoop them up after BA or JD and overwork them until they quit), misrepresent case load during interview by 50% of total, low ceiling for non-attorney career advancement. Have an exit plan.
