Pros
-sense of community and teamwork amongst the nursing staff -ability to foster long term relationships with patients and their families -opportunities to grow into leadership positions such as charge nurse, case management, education -supportive and attentive Nurse Practitioners -free parking
Cons
- one of the managers is known to be condescending and rude -about 70% of staff are new grads and the turn over around their 1 year mark is very high - unsafe ratios, not uncommon for nurses to go up to five patients -slow patient turn over leading to burnout with long term high care patients - no RT manager in place, RT overnight can be found sleeping or with headphones in without consequence due to lack of oversight -Known that nursing management are close friends which makes it difficult for nursing to bring up any issues with other managers - every other weekend the first year of employment -DON is a figure head who only shows up to the unit for photo ops -HR has poor response time and often are not in office during scheduled hours
