Pros

I worked part-time for GEI while finishing up graduate school and recently started full-time. The diverse skill-sets and backgrounds of coworkers allows for great learning on the job. There are many opportunities to get involved in a variety of projects and learn new skills. My supervisor(s) have been very supportive of learning new skills and provide interesting work. Overall, a great company in my opinion.

Cons

The Sacramento Office is growing rapidly. This has brought many positive changes, but growing pains have definitely played out. Overall, nothing negative to say.

We are thrilled that you worked for us as a student and chose to return to us as a full-time professional after graduation. Getting the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects and learning our profession is something we strive to offer as a fundamental part of our culture. We enjoy cultivating a work environment where motivated and engaged junior employees get to apply their formal education in a meaningful and creative way in consulting. We have been consistently growing as a company, with Sacramento being one of our fastest growing offices. Our well-established water practice has seen considerable expansion and we are excited to be able to add to our talented team in support of our clients. While we strive to maintain low turnover, we do find that consulting isn’t for everyone. We understand that as students graduate and seek out their first professional job that some thrive in consulting while others may find different ways to apply their technical skills in careers that are a better match for them and that process can contribute to turnover. Thank you for choosing us, a second time, for your career and we hope that you enjoy a long, successful career at GEI!

Pros

Some of the people in the office/other branches were great and I continue to have friendships with them to this day.

Cons

If you’re a young professional, say good bye to seeing the inside of an office. You’re 100% in the field with no room to learn other parts of the job and grow your own client network and report writing. The dynamic between the leadership group (Amber Ahles and Brooke Bennett) and younger professional (especially females) was terrible. This was a mean girls club where you are judged by what you wear, what time you walk in and out of the door, and if you had an opinion. They never would take accountability for failing the younger professionals and then just blame you for not growing and improving at the pace they wanted you to. At the end of the day, management and leaders are responsible for the growth and success of the team. Additionally, if you want to be bullied by mid level professionals, who think they are superior to you and gang up with management, this is the place. Johnnie Noles will take care of that for you. In all, the only good thing this job brought me, was the “experience” to take myself anywhere but there. The way you treat people matters. And these three people single handily ruined the experience for me and others I have spoken with. Do better.

Thank you for taking the time to share your candid feedback regarding your experience at GEI Consultants. We sincerely appreciate your honesty and recognize the importance of learning from both positive and negative experiences shared by our team members, past and present. We are glad to hear that you formed meaningful friendships with some colleagues during your time at GEI Consultants. We strive to foster an environment where collaboration and respect are central to our culture, and we are pleased that this aspect of your experience was positive. We are truly sorry to learn that you felt limited in your ability to grow professionally, especially in terms of client networking and report writing. Supporting young professionals in their development is a priority for us, and your feedback highlights areas where we need to improve our approach to mentorship and the allocation of responsibilities. The concerns you raised regarding the office dynamic, particularly around interactions between leadership and younger professionals, are deeply troubling. We take allegations of exclusionary behavior, lack of accountability, and bullying very seriously. Our goal is to create a welcoming and respectful workplace for everyone, regardless of background or experience. Your feedback will be shared with our People Team and senior leadership to initiate a thorough review of our current practices and to identify steps toward improvement. Thank you again for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. We regret that your experience at GEI Consultants did not reflect the values we strive to uphold, and we are committed to making meaningful changes based on your insights.
