I liked and admired my supervisor very much, as did all of the people who worked for him, and then they threw him under the bus.

I was hired as part of a special team to work on an order for Dollar General. After working several months some machines arrived from one of Gildan’s Caribbean plants. We were ordered to cut the labels out of Fruit of the Loom shirts and heat transfer the Gildan label onto it. I complained to my supervisor, who was hired just for this project and he assured me that it was legal. When other people questioned this also, our supervisor had a meeting with his boss and the head of the Charleston office who both said the legal department in Canada had oked the work. Not only did we put their labels in Fruit of the Loom shirts but we were then ordered to send them back to Dollar General with other shirts from another company, the colors did not match, the display boxes looked cheap with three of four shades of the same color in the same boxes. We complained to our supervisor who then complained about the presentation but was again told to just do the work. About a month after we shipped the goods some lawyers came down from Canada. Dollar General and Fruit of the Loom threatened to sue and they made our supervisor the scapegoat. The day after the lawyers left he was called down stairs and escorted out of the building. Even though he had nothing to do with the order except follow orders, he was fired. Slowly they got rid of all of us that worked on this project. The company wanted everyone who worked on this project out of the building. We did what we were told and then they fired us when Fruit of the Loom threatened to sue.
