Pros
Good base salary and service based increases and other benefits. Various shift patterns available and where possible management will try and work with family commitments. Above national average holiday entitlement although holiday structure is quite rigid. when new models are introduced for production, often a person gets tasked to "Champion" that model making sure that work standards are set and maintained. Also gets the chance to set up work area based on experience working on that model.
Cons
Very limited chance for progression for a welder. If your good at your job then you get pigeon holed into that job and it's hard if not impossible to move up in the company. Team leaders assigned over areas that they have no experience in. A fundamental flaw when part of their job description is to help out on the tools when required. Constantly short staffed which means more pressure placed in work force to cover the shortfall. Numbers matter more than quality when push comes to shove.
