James River Insurance is a sweatshop. They do not care about Claims Associates or Claims Examiners, except for how many claims you can work for them, and how much overtime you can put in when the directors and managers mismanage their claims inventory. Training consisted of a rush job of stories about claims scenarios, most of which were irrelevant for a new associate. We were taught about 33% of what we needed to know to actually WORK claims in the computer system, and received barely any hands-on time with the computer system itself prior to getting thrown out onto the floor with a full inventory of new claims from day one. We were partnered with other claims associates, who usually had no idea we were coming out to sit with them. They had no training plan and asked us, the new hires, what we wanted to learn. How are we, as new hires, supposed to know what we need to know to perform a job we have never worked before? This is indicative of how James River Insurance sets employees up for failure. Once out on the floor, the workload increased to 200% of what a normal associate would be able to handle, and then management started threatening to fire people unless they got caught up. Their definition of "helping you" is quite literally to tell you to work more overtime. Management at James River Insurance does not care about you, your time, or your family. They only want to pile up more work than an employee can handle, and then threaten termination unless you work overtime. "But, they have to pay extra money for overtime... why would they want run their business model that way?" Because, they don't pay well to begin with. As an entry level associate, you would be managing virtually all of your own administrative tasks on your own, including faxing, emailing, calling, perparing invoices, attempting to correct mistakes on claims from the setup process, all the while being hammered by management to catch up on all the work that you get behind on due to getting twice as many new claims as you should. "Work more or get fired!" That is their motto, and they will fire you and hire more unsuspecting employees... and start the cycle all over again.
