Pros
January is a small company with the resources of a large company. We have the advantage of being nimble, but with the safety nets that are often not afforded to startups. While AI and health are now sexy fields, that wasn't always the case. This means that the people who are here, really want to be here. Everyone takes ownership and wants to see the company succeed in a big way. By far the best part of my job, though, is working with our CEO, Noosheen Hashemi. She's not only a fount of knowledge and experience, but she's one of the kindest and most generous people I've ever met. She constantly goes out of her way for employees, and a common refrain from her during 1:1s is, "I want to make sure you're having a good time here." It makes no rational sense for a person who'd already achieved her level of success to embark upon a grueling startup journey––but she embodies the missionary mindset that characterizes our company culture, and her passion is infectious and highly motivating.
Cons
Honestly, not many. I've worked my fair share of trivial, paper-pushing roles where I had the appearance of being busy without making a substantial impact. This is probably the hardest job I've worked, both in terms of the intellectual and time demands, but it's immensely cool to be making a substantial contribution.
