Pros

-40% employee discount -laid back atmosphere Initially, working at Journeys seemed great. The coworkers were friendly, and the 40% discount helped me expand my shoe collection. If you only want to work 4 hours every other week, Journeys is the perfect place to be.

Cons

-lots of drama between coworkers -small commission, only 4% off of any item except shoes (socks, shirts, backpacks...) -ridiculously high turnover rate of managers (5 different store managers in about a year and a half) -immature management (oldest manager is in his early 20's) -greedy management (management will make sales associates clean up the stockroom so they can make the sales and commissions) -management typically has obvious favorites -management does not seriously consider part-time employees' concerns/complaints -unpredictable hours/schedule Within a few months, my Journeys location started slipping downhill. At first, I got a fairly steady amount of hours every week. I requested 15-20 hours a week since I was a student, and that's what I got. The schedules were put out a week or so in advance. When the management changed, so did the professional atmosphere. Schedules were put out only one day in advance. Without warning, part-time employees hours were slashed down to 4 hours a week-if they were lucky. There were times when I went 2 weeks without getting a single shift. When I would get a shift, I would be stuck in the back room cleaning and organizing. I was a sales associate, not a maid. I didn't mind picking up occasionally, but I wanted a chance to do some selling as well. The managers were completely unapologetic about the shortage of hours. They only cared about maximizing their own commissions.

Pros

- Diversity & inclusion throughout employees - No dress code (other than inappropriate clothing obviously and occasional Journeys t-shirts during holidays) - Paid training - Flexible schedule (at least at my store)

Cons

- Horrible corporate mentality - Only the sales leads and above work on commission even though every employee has to HARD sell - Sales goals that are unrealistic and based off of the previous year's numbers - Little to no benefit for reaching or surpassing the ridiculous sales goals - District managers and corporate employees who say you're not good at your job unless you practically beg customers to buy socks and multiple pairs of shoes even if they came in knowing exactly what they want (to the point of annoying the customer) - Verbal, then write up, then immediate termination if you don't meet or surpass EVERY single category in your MPR (monthly progress report) - District managers who demote the best managers and transfer people to other stores with no say in the matter, as well as letting certain bad managers get away with things without reporting it - lowwwww pay for what is expected of the employee
