Pros

I liked my staff/employees. Chill dress code. 40% discount.

Cons

If you want to have the absolute worst work/life balance this is it. They do not care at all about what you have going on. I expressed that I was struggling mentally with not seeing my family with the 45 hr weeks and then because they set unrealistic sales goals that we can’t hit they raised it to 6 day work weeks and 50+ hours had to be worked. It was like we were being punished. I was swollen and limping while pregnant and told I couldn’t be treated differently at all and was still expected to lift shipment boxes, climb ladders, not sit down. You’re scheduled alone as a manager most of the time as well since you’re not hourly they will abuse and use you. They expect you in upper management to do 100% of the hiring when management spots need to be filled even if it’s not in your store. They don’t want you to ever have sales leads that don’t want to 100% be co-managers so to get help in promoting someone that could hold a key and be left in the store was impossible. THE PAY IS HORRIBLE. They do not care at all about their part timers as they only want to give them a non-livable wage at $1 over minimum. They have a fever dream that management will make all this commission which you may only see slightly during the holidays. They set the goals too high to ever see commission. They don’t care how long you’ve been in a store and what records you broke, you are easily replaceable. They won’t even talk or say goodbye about it. Also not to mention the DM will talk crap behind your back to people in lower positions as well. Why did I know how other managers were terminated? HR violations up and down.

Pros

- Diversity & inclusion throughout employees - No dress code (other than inappropriate clothing obviously and occasional Journeys t-shirts during holidays) - Paid training - Flexible schedule (at least at my store)

Cons

- Horrible corporate mentality - Only the sales leads and above work on commission even though every employee has to HARD sell - Sales goals that are unrealistic and based off of the previous year's numbers - Little to no benefit for reaching or surpassing the ridiculous sales goals - District managers and corporate employees who say you're not good at your job unless you practically beg customers to buy socks and multiple pairs of shoes even if they came in knowing exactly what they want (to the point of annoying the customer) - Verbal, then write up, then immediate termination if you don't meet or surpass EVERY single category in your MPR (monthly progress report) - District managers who demote the best managers and transfer people to other stores with no say in the matter, as well as letting certain bad managers get away with things without reporting it - lowwwww pay for what is expected of the employee
