Pros
As a teacher you work a 6 hour shift and there's no lesson planning. The company has made packets of homework and tests for all classes which reduces your workload. You also get to work with some of the most underserved kids out there which can be really fulfilling.
Cons
Directives come down from on high with little to no warning or explanation. Generally these directives add a later of bureaucracy to your already full schedule or they add a responsibility that doesn't help you get your job done. Teachers are held to strict goals in terms of getting kids to turn work in, doesn't matter if the student just had a baby or moved or you have no working contact number for them. Admin is not really interested in "excuses" just results. Teachers are not really trusted to manage students and are given very strict and inefficient rules on how to do everything from calling kids to making appointments. THERE IS NO PAY SCALE for advancing in salary as time goes by or as you obtain more education. They've changed the teacher salary over the years so teachers who've been there longer make more than new teachers with no hope of ever catching up or increasing your own salary.
