Pros

-Employees have the opportunity to be responsible for tasks/projects they would otherwise be deemed "too inexperienced" for. -Everyone works hard - there is no dead weight at Locus.

Cons

-Core values are not upheld. During the interviewing process, candidates are told they can "save lives" and "grow faster than anywhere else" if they're willing to put in the time and hard work. They are told that Locus believes in transparency, team-first, hard work, and critical thinking. From my time at this growing biotech startup, I can tell you that leadership only encourages and demonstrates the latter two because 1) transparency is weaponized by leadership - they expect employees to divulge information on their coworkers (even when told in confidence) when issues arrive, but do not openly discuss or address company-wide issues (e.g., low morale) and 2) leadership plays favorites among departments, which encourages and perpetuates contention between departments, which isn't very team-first. -Leadership is out of touch with the day-to-day activities and provides teams with unreasonable expectations to meet deadlines. -No work-life balance and burn out. Locus employees are encouraged to "take time off" when they begin to feel burnout from the consistent 10-12 hour days but are discouraged from taking too much time off for the sake of optics. -There is a lack of accountability for low morale and retention, with very little being done to improve it. -Pay is below industry average.

Pros

I have great workers! Also, I've been able to work on a few different projects in different departments (R&D, manufacturing, and clinical) and have been given a lot of responsibility. My work seems to be appreciated and I've been regularly promoted. Finally, our drug seems to be doing really well in the clinic, and TBH, killing bacteria with engineered viruses is probably the most exciting thing I could be doing.

Cons

Long hours sometimes and changing priorities

Pros

Great environment to learn new instruments and new things.

Cons

Toxic work environment. Everyone seems nice but they are the same people who will snitch on you for favors from management.
