Pros
I have seen a lot of negative things written on here about working at Maurices and I understand the frustration with most of the issues. But it is a retail job and you cannot stand around doing nothing all of your shift and expect to be paid for that. I also think it a store to store basis. Different managers are focused on different opportunity areas. I came from a well performing store (stats wise) to a store who was low performing stats wise and how we talk to customers and balance time is completely different. The over all goal is to do well for the company as a whole and if individuals aren't pulling their weight how can we succeed as a whole team? In any job I have worked including this one, being open and honest is number one, the best thing there is. If you don't like something going on, say so and give a better idea. You also have to be able to work quickly, sell well, be genuine with customers and be fashionable. To be real honest what were you expecting applying to this company if you didn't want to do those things? I absolutely love what I do everyday. Are there struggles? Yes. Do I get frustrated somedays? Yes. But overall do I enjoy going to my job every day. I do. If you are driven and energetic and enjoy helping/talking/ selling to people all day this is the job for you. If not that's why you didn't like it here. Don't trash talk the job expectations when they were laid out for you.
Cons
I don't believe we are given enough hours to get everything we would like in one day done. I also don't agree 100% with the store managers only working 40 hours. I understand it's for work/ life balance but for me, when/ if I get my own store my work is my life and if I can't put everything i can into my store it makes it hard for me to succeed. It also makes it hard when random issues come up or things just need to get done that they can't stay to finish. Although it has made us all better time managers. I also would like to see hours that we spend not on the floor selling marked as non production as we need to have time to complete things like meetings and interviews and other manager duties that don't involve customers and selling. It affects our stats and makes it harder to do well personally. Again it's not impossible it just means we have to work 10X harder when on the floor selling.
