Horrible Environment - Recruitment Consultant Michael Page Employee Review

When interviewing at Michael Page, consultants are literally told to tell candidates whatever they need to hear to accept a job offer which is exactly how they got me. The recruiter there told me it was a 9-5 job and if you got all of your work done you could leave earlier. That was NOT the case whatsoever. "Work hard-play hard" and "performance-based culture" are just words they use to sell you in. They are not true at all. A typical day is 8am-7pm and if you arrive or leave earlier than those times - people will judge you and give you serious trouble for it - even if they aren't your manager. In addition, the 20 days of PTO is something that they use to sell people in on. I tried to utilize my 20 days since they do not get paid out or rolled over to the next year and I was scolded by my boss. He told me that management looks at how many PTO days people have left and it shows how committed they are to the business. One of my colleagues had 18 PTO days left at the end of the year. 18. Part of that is due to the fact that even if you do utilize your PTO, your phone will be ringing non-stop from colleagues all day to ask you questions about deals or candidates. I went on a 4-day vacation and my boss and people on my team called me 20 times, and that is not an exaggeration. The pay is also great at Michael Page, BUT when you look at it from an hourly perspective, it is not worth it at all. As a recruitment consultant working 55 hours a week, that averages to about $13/hour. And again, if you work less than that, you will be scolded. Whether it be from peers or from your manager. In addition, Michael Page basically lets anyone be a manager if they bill enough money, even people with no leadership skills whatsoever. They also foster a very micromanaging work-environment. My boss was constantly looking over my shoulder, listening into my calls, and we had check-ins 3 times a day to see how I was doing. Outside of work, specifically, people are mean. Most people there think that this job is just an extension of Frat/Sorority life and act as such. While I was working there, I saw people talking poorly about coworkers on our office instant-messaging platform. Very unprofessional, toxic, and anxiety-causing office. I would not wish it upon my worst enemy to work here.
