Pros
Being a developer, many of my pros/cons are centered around that. Pros: * Great team to work with, I'm happy to show up and see them every day, which is HUGE. * The software stack that I spend most of my time on, and that we do 99% of our development on is modern, and supported by our upper management. Anytime we need a new tool/database/whatever, they're open to the suggestion as long as you have a well-founded reason for requesting it. * The company culture has been really nice for me personally, that can be a bit of a loaded topic, so rather than talk about the 'softer' things on culture, here are the actual day to day things in the culture that benefit me: ** The employees smile at me when I come in the door, say hi/etc. ** I see people laughing around the office daily. Obviously people have bad days, but I can't remember a day where everyone collectively felt 'glum', which is nice. ** Especially recently, the work/life balance has been extraordinary, with almost very little to zero stress to pull super late hours/weekends/etc. Obviously if you're working on a project and you hit a crunch time you need to do what you need to do to make it right, but (at least for tech), we've gotten really good at managing expectations so that things don't feel insane-o. ** HR (they call it empowerment) is very very responsive and fast! If I have questions about anything, they're really on top of it ** very transparent. I can count on like... 2? fingers the number of times I've had a question about anything in the company, from finances, to explanations of drama, etc. that went unanswered. And both of those times they were answered within a week (was going to be public, just wasn't quite yet). That's big for me personally, so yay! 5/5 there * The benefit package is good, PTO is on par with other tech companies in the area, I never feel awkward or pressured not to use PTO, salary is competitive, health/dental/etc. is all normal from my point of view (no kids, etc.). * most of the other normal small/medium sized tech companies you work for have similar other pros, nothing too shocking here at PaySimple above the already mentioned stand-out pros
Cons
Cons: * Sometimes there can be some project thrashing from 'chasing the dollar' as some people put it. This can be frustrating if you're in the middle of ramping up for a project and then have to swap to a new one. * Difficult to project timelines for software projects that can cause frustration, which is intensely prevalent across Software Companies, but it's no exception here. * The office can be a little loud, so if you get distracted easy, that could be a con you'd have to mitigate with headphones/etc. * The ramp up time for developers can be high due to a large codebase with a variety of technologies across the past decade. We've done a good job consolidating in the past 2-3 years and have some good paths forward, but you still need to interact with them all more or less. Good for learning/growing as a developer/etc. but can be frustrating when starting.
