Pros

In my understanding, T.W. Ponessa hires all W-2 employees. In an industry that has shifted toward 1099 Independent Contractor work, this is a major plus. From what I have seen, Program Leadership strive to create a positive culture which emphasizes growth. There are opportunities for earning free CE credits and receiving Masters licensure supervision. At the program level, there is a lot of support and collaboration. Because there is an emphasis on employment vs. contract work, many stay for a long-time or until opportunities for growth are exhausted. T.W. Ponessa can be a wonderful place for trainees and early career Clinicians to learn and grow!

Cons

This is a for-profit entity who strives to "earn profit" through maximizing employee productivity. While this is not inherently negative, it is important to understand and be comfortable with the culture and practices of the company. It is important for anyone seeking employment to be sure that they fully understand policies and procedures (e.g. read employment agreements thoroughly and ask questions if you don't understand) on the front end to prevent any confusion or consequences for "miscommunication" or "lack of communication" on the backend. Payment, both salaried and part-time, is definitely on the lower end relative to competitors, but there are frequent opportunities for overtime and bonus pay for meeting or exceeding productivity goals.

Thank you for the feedback. As you mentioned, we do strive to create a positive culture at the company, as a whole and at the program level. We sincerely appreciate the work and dedication our employees have towards making a difference in the lives of their consumers. We do offer Licensure Supervision to any Master level clinician who is desirous of pursuing Licensure. Licensure could be as a LMFT, LPC, or LCSW. T.W. Ponessa & Associates is able to provide individual supervision and /or group supervision for the benefit of the supervisee, to obtain a License. As we to grow, we will continue to look for ways to enhance employee compensation and the benefits package. We will share your suggestions with our management team and we appreciate you sharing them with us. Thank you for your feedback.

Pros

I enjoy how there are many opportunities for BHTs and others who work for the comany to create a positive work community. My higher-ups have been very helpful, informational, firm and kind. I enjoy working with my client and it has been a good transition into working in a school setting

Cons

I cannot think about any cons right now.

Pros

The rapport within the department was generally good, people are very supportive of one another. Supervisors could be helpful too depending on the issue. You do get to make your own schedule (somewhat). It's a nice building, I liked my individual office.

Cons

It completely wrecked my mental health; I was literally always burnt out and dealt with several severe depressive episodes while employed, as well as trauma symptoms afterwards. Granted I know this is partially due to the state of community mental health in general; however, I was in a state of constant anxiety regarding my productivity hours and always felt like I was being gaslit. If you don't meet your quota, you start losing PTO hours or sometimes even your salary. I worked 11 hour days and would still have to bring work home with me. I never felt good enough no matter what I did to get ahead. The business focuses more on quantity of clients rather than quality of their care; it sometimes felt more like I was working in a factory than in a therapy office. I feel bad because the clients are really the ones that suffer for it.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you experienced a supportive team environment during your time with us. We do want to clarify that expectations around productivity and scheduling are clearly communicated throughout the hiring process and regularly reviewed with staff to ensure transparency. We strive to provide consistency and support so clinicians understand what is required and have the resources to be successful. We recognize that community mental health can be demanding work and may not be the right fit for everyone. We remain committed to maintaining a supportive workplace while delivering high-quality care to our clients. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.
