Pros
Welcoming Staff
Good hours and pay
Cons
I felt extremely misled about this internship opportunity. As an accounting major, I repeatedly expressed interest in learning about loan closing processes, leadership development, and gaining broader exposure to the company. I was assured that my accounting background would be valuable and that I would have many opportunities to learn and grow.
However, I was not informed of the actual responsibilities of the role until my second day. I then learned that the position primarily involved customer service tasks, including making collections calls and opening loans for customers. These duties did not align with the expectations that had been communicated to me during the hiring process.
I also found it difficult to feel good about opening loans for customers, as it often felt like I was helping people take on more debt rather than improving their financial situation. By my third day, I decided to step away from the opportunity because the role was not what I had been led to expect.
If you are interested in a customer service position that involves frequent phone calls with clients, this role may be a good fit. Otherwise, I recommend asking detailed questions about the day-to-day responsibilities before accepting the position.
