Pros

You can find well-meaning ICs on your project team who are also shackled and supportive about grinding through hell together.

Cons

- 80 hours per week is the minimum. It's normal to have 100+ hour work weeks. What's a weekend? - No 401k matching, which is hilarious for a $13B company. Even startups worth a fraction of Scale offer 401k matching... - Frequent cost-cutting in areas that don't make sense (e.g., dropping rates to $7/hour for data labelers in certain countries on coding projects) despite subleasing one of the most expensive offices. - No training or care from "leadership." They're really only worried about how much they can make and which mansions/boats they can buy if Scale IPOs or exits. "Leadership" has no real organizational management experience and runs Scale like a frat house. - Burn out, burn out, burn out. Burnt out? They'll let you go. - Wizard of the Oz effect: the CEO's job is to make sure Scale looks good. What happens inside the company and how poorly run the organization is will make anybody scream. Project quality is terrible, and our customers know it. There are constant fires from trying to make up for how terrible everything is.

Pros

- Lot of flexibility as you get a say in how much core platform vs. customer-specific work you want to take up - Exciting growth avenues being pursued by organization in both enterprise and public sectors - Heavy emphasis on internal tooling being built that augments developer experience and pace of client delivery

Cons

- Sometimes, the team moves at a rapid pace at expense of sustainability/maintainability for short-term wins. - Lots of internal tooling being built are prematurely deployed for developers, and a lot of time goes into back-and-forth for gains that will only be visible in a large lookahead.
