Pros

-If you are right wing, white, and Christian, it's a great company to work for. - If you keep your mouth shut and work hard for your pittance, you might be rewarded if you are a favorite. -Each store is a complete microcosm, I know for a fact that the Mankato store is easier to work at than the Rochester store. Unfortunately, the Rochester store suffers from being part of the Gestapo with people so brainwashed by Scheels that they are encouraged to tattle on each other. -Have fun but don't have too much fun or you'll be written up. -If you HAVE to work retail, this is going to be better than Wal-Mart (but don't work retail) -Medical benefits are really good -It's actually a good company to work for if you work Part Time, don't work there Full Time. -You'll meet people there that are awesome (and that you'll want to take with you when you leave Scheels), but don't get caught trying to blow off some steam with them or you'll get written up.

Cons

-This is a company for white, right-wing, Christian people. If you don't drink the kool-aid and don't think and act like them, you will go on their bad list. I can't tell you the amount of times people of color quit because they didn't feel comfortable -No LGBTQ or diversity training. I overheard insensitive jokes and microaggressions constantly from customers and often times from co-workers. -Always beware of a company that calls itself a family. -Management won't take kindly if you disagree with them, and they may even write you up for respectfully calling them out for insubordination but then they'll talk out the other side of their mouth about how they wish people told them how they really feel. -"We won't pay the best, but we won't pay the least" -Scheels quote They expect you to go above and beyond for the pittance of money they offer. -Only 11 days of PTO that you get a year (and you get 1 extra day each year...), in this day and age of the great resignation, this is absolutely pathetic. There are hundreds of better companies to work for than this. I must reiterate, only work here if you are right-wing, Christian, and white.

Pros

You get to try lots of cool new shoes, there is tons of entertaining retail drama, you can make a decent amount of money if you are good at sales (I could easily double my base salary on weekends), and the discount is quite nice. Management usually seems to care a lot for employees, and many are very flexible with scheduling and make it easy to work around other jobs/classes. There is room for progression, and I was offered a higher position, but the salary growth wasn't ideal for me in this economy.

Cons

You are on your feet A LOT - I often walked 30-40k steps a day during the holiday season or Saturdays (with only a 30 min lunch break), and sometimes you get scheduled for multiple weeks with no days off in between. Getting a good manager for your schedule is also important, because some give only a week's notice before putting out the next couple of weeks, which makes it hard to plan things with friends/family. Part time employees also get no benefits, even when I was consistently working 40-50 hours a week for months at a time. Additionally, there are some unscrupulous characters working there, but most have gotten fired.
