Very talented people at this company, but poor leadership and lack of direction - Sr. Solutions Engineer Snyk Employee Review

Pros

Some of the most intelligent, passionate and talented people I've ever met work at Snyk (or have worked here). They have fundamentally created a category with developer first security that no one else in the market can really compete with in terms of developer adoption. The SEs, TSMs, and platform specialists that I've had the opportunity to work with are top notch and the SE leadership really goes out of their way to support their teams. Overall, very impressive technical talent at this company.

Cons

Like most companies trying to compete across several domains, Snyk doesn't have nearly enough product managers and engineering staff to deliver on it's product vision and strategy. They are lacking many key features competitors have and have failed to deliver key product deliverables on time, which has caused customer headaches and churn. Additionally, the support team does a poor job at handling support cases, which makes it difficult to keep happy customers. Finally, there really seems to be a disconnect between upper management/finance/HR and the middle management teams below that are actually managing teams on the ground. This is evident because several rounds of layoffs have occurred since July 2022, where top talent was let go without any discussion to allow them to stay or possibly transition into another role. This isn't a sound strategy to support enterprise customers if you remove your most seasoned employees that deliver the experience and skills you need in order to successfully penetrate the enterprise market.

Snyk Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a detailed review of your experience. I am pleased that you felt you were able to work with some of the most talented and passionate individuals while at Snyk. However, I’m sorry to hear that there were difficulties in meeting product deliverables and that you felt there was a disconnect between teams. We partner across all areas of the organization to ensure alignment across teams, and the impacts that we have gone through over time were decisions that were not made lightly and without sound judgment. I appreciate your input into areas where we can improve. - Sandy Mott, VP Talent Business Partnering

Pros

Fully remote, flexible, and monthly stipends. Good pay.

Cons

Shady leadership. Tendency to hire employees for a specific reason only to dissolve their position once whatever project they forecasted for the employee is complete. I’ve seen it happen to multiple employees during my employment until it finally happened to me after a few years. Was advised by a former employee in leadership that I would more than likely be overloaded with work and worked out the door in some way because that was their trend. I didn’t believe it but it started happening to many people around me. I don’t trust these people and managers are very loose lipped, move sloppily, and doesn’t know how to not let secrets slip out. I knew my position was being dissolved from meetings I saw on my managers calendar. Luckily I started applying for jobs because I saw the writing on the walls. I had something else lined up but was still a bit blindsided because I was clearly communicating need for help to my leadership. Multiple interviews asking how I was doing and what I needed help with only for 3 days later to be told my position was no longer needed.
