Pros
after school job that paid alright for what it was. Lots of young people work there as they tend to constantly get hired and fired / quit. In my experience the department managers were really friendly. flexible hours to fit my schedule.
Cons
its retail, so naturally its terrible. you get brain dead people who give you grief but that's not particularly stop and shop's fault, you'll get that at any retail job. The store managers at my store were in everybody's business and always trying to micromanage everything. calling out sick was a sin as they're already underhanded. Forced into a union which was a con for me as the union mainly helped those who were constantly in trouble with managers. For people like me, all it did was take money from my paycheck for nothing. If i left for the school year and came back for the summer my seniority was reset and was set back to starting pay which at the time was $8.55/hr. If you're looking for advancement, forget about it, you could move from department to department with difficulty but you'd never move up as the ladder basically is CLERKS, DEPARTMENT MANAGERS, STORE MANAGERS. only the "ancients" (grocery senior center) who've been with the company all of their lives have "good" benefits. pay raises are miniscule, about 5- 10 cents raise a year. whoo hoo
