Pros
40% discount on merchandise, including clearance. I had an excellent management team and sales staff that I enjoyed working with immensely. I was hired on as an assistant store manager.
Cons
Sales associates do not get many hours, and there are few full time positions in each store. Key holders do about the same amount of work as managers, have much of the same responsibilities, but have almost no benefits. Part time assistants are given some benefits, and are able to accrue some vacation time, but only allowed 24 hours of sick time per year, so you end up using all your vacay hours when you're sick. 24 hours is pretty ridiculous for such a large company. Torrid needs to scout out locations for their stores and do more research before opening new ones. My store was closed and all the employees were laid off because the mall it was located at was too remote for such a niche customer. Almost no business during the week, and then slammed on the weekends and holidays. We all stayed on to see to the closing of the store in order to receive the severance package. A few years later, they opened a new store in the local area, but didn't bother to tell any of us that had been laid off, or even ask if we wanted to come work in the new store. I had even applied at Hot Topic (sister company to Torrid) when they had an opening but I wasn't even considered for the position. Instead, they let another employee from a different store have that position, instead of giving the job to someone who really needed it. It felt pretty bad that I had worked hard for them for almost four years, got laid off, and then couldn't get rehired for some unknown reason.
