Pros

Great benefits Good room to develop skills This is a great place if you every want to branch into a certain area in your career. You can do anything here: finance, healthcare, research, marketing, education, etc

Cons

Once you are in they it's can be hard to move up or get a salary increase. If without a union, you are capped at a 25% salary increase per year---this means if you change positions twice in a single year the max you can get is 25% for the year....

Pros

Great benefits, if you choose the highest tier options. Lower tier options are okay. Good leave options (if you choose highest tier options). If you care about stuff like academic or scholarly reputation, then it’s a great place. Especially if you put that above your worth as a human being and others worth as human beings.

Cons

Microaggressions. Disorganized and non-transparent leadership Passive aggressive approaches to problem-solving. Tensions are never resolved. Supervisors may or may not properly address time card needs. They WILL low ball your pay. They will come at you with the lowest tier pay option and tell you that “HR doesn’t negotiate.” Or that compensation doesn’t. Well, they do. Negotiate for what you deserve or decline the job. It won’t be worth it. It is known across CA that UC Davis low balls pay. Not all roles are union represented and if you are not represented, prepare to be treated however they see fit. They look to external businesses to solve their internal problems.
