Pros
Great salary, bonuses, and benefits for San Antonio, better than most companies' retirement plan, beautiful campus with cafeterias, fitness centers, Starbucks, company stores. In general, co-workers are smart and dedicated. Mission of serving the military is noble.
Cons
Two-faced management who say they want feedback but never do anything with it. Never experienced a place where managers are so threatened by employees' growth that they literally stand in the way of development. They say they want creativity and innovation, but what they really want is butt kissing and not rocking the boat. Very heavy military style still permeates. This is not a winning formula for the fast-changing world we live in, and as soon as the workforce becomes predominantly millenials, they will not tolerate it. Managers in positions that are way over their heads or have no experience managing. Career paths are very limited in many areas. Some areas get millions in funding, other scrape by on a penny and a prayer. Approvals and processes will kill you and take forever. This is a very slow moving company. Things do not happen spontaneously here. Work-life balance will depend on what area you work in, and who your manager is. Some are OK with working from home, many are not. You may put in 60 hours a week, but will be asked to do more, and god help you if you make a mistake in the zero-mistake tolerance atmosphere. If you are the kind of person who can come in, do their job quietly without trying to go outside the lines, you may thrive in this environment. If you are creative, want to innovate, or want to try things outside your job description, this isn't the place for you.
