Pros
Member driven culture - high focus on our military customers Private company - allows for a longer view on strategy Great benefits Development focused leadership
Cons
Organizational structure - it is very unusual and creates a backward approach to managing product lines - the product line leaders do not actually own any resources and the operational resources are stove piped into different segments... As are the support roles - marketing, IT, etc... As a result there is very little alignment of goals and it seems that politics can trump data... That being said, within a given area it's a great place to work, but when your goals rely on several different stove pipes, the time to accomplish an effort is extremely long compared to other companies I have exposure to. The pace is fairly lax, which can be a good thing or not, depending how you feel about it. USAA takes good care of their members and is very financially successful, so there is little desire to rock the boat it would seem
