Volt is a (good) steady paycheck from a rotten corporation. - Software Developer Volt Information Sciences Employee Review

Pros

The other people in my department are generally very good and a pleasure to work with. The flexibility to take time off when life intrudes is great. We are encouraged to utilize all of our sick time each year, such that it is like having additional vacation time usable one and two days at time.

Cons

I can only speak for the software development group, and I don't know how the rest of Volt is. That said, I think management wise and organizationally Volt is rotten. There is no structure to promotions. Performance isn't recognized outside of a bonus for a single person at years end of a whopping $400 (not even a half percent). Technologically it is at least a decade behind. Everyone still has 15 inch CRT monitors(except a couple of guys who bought their own LCD's). There is at least one grossly incompetent Development Manager, and the other two, while not as bad, are still horrible. The CIO is clueless. She wouldn't even recognize half of the staff if she passed them on the street. They try to call what we doAgile development, yet don't even practice anything like Agile except for daily scrums. A full group of ~20 programmers, primarily supporting a couple simple C.R.U.D applications? It's ridiculous.

Pros

Opportunity to meet and work with amazing people and client companies

Cons

They do not match 401k, you need to find your own coverage to use PTO. Operations is always the scapegoat when something goes wrong. Employees in any department that are not sales are undervalued and under compensated. Nepotism is huge at this company. No job security, layoffs every quarter.
