Pros

You meet some really interesting people, and make some good friends. Free coffee is a plus.

Cons

Management is HORRIBLE. No support, No Communication. They stray severely far away from companies "Core Values." Favoritism is played in our store. Management only pays attention to "the favorites". I've been working here a year and am just now getting trained to actually do my job, however people who have been here less than 6 months are being trained to reconcile register tills by the IMM.... I thought that was a job for management.. Hours are always inconsistent, and your availability is completely ignored, OR it's looked at and scheduled in a spiteful way. Lot's of drama, and gossip circulating the store. Can't trust anyone. High turn around in our store, always new faces, ALWAYS new management. Store never stocked. Basic things like forks and cup holders run out. Our store is infested with fruit flies, again.. management doesn't care. Shift managers play on cell phones all night, and threaten to kick paying customers out of the store, because they don't like their attitudes. Welcome to retail. No work ethic at all. Maybe it's just our store, but I doubt it. "Employee of the Month" is picked and fixed by management. I personally have been voted in twice, but management (doesn't like me) picked other people (whom... go figure .. are FAVORITES) to be employee of the month holders. Rude, sarcastic comments, demeaning attitude and oppressive atmosphere served up by general manager. Always makes wawa the first place i want to run to. Not.

Pros

(Depending on your manager) you can take the tasks at your own pace and do what feels best, based on what you see. The position I'm in allows headphone use if you're not visible to customers.

Cons

Skeletal shifts are the norm, employee burnout is rampant and unaddressed. Manager turnover is very high at my store, which makes establishing consistency impossible. I get the impression that the conditions for employees vary greatly by store. That said, if you find yourself stuck at a rougher one, your options are to either take the toll to your physical and mental health, or to quit/transfer to a better store. I have personally experienced many legal violations at my place of employment. (keeping the store open and functioning when the workers don't have a bathroom [OSHA fixed that]) (and a few incidents where hours were not properly entered for employees, causing them to work without pay) I have worked here for 4 years without benefits, one year only missing the hour-cutoff for it by an average of 20 minutes. Consistent schedules are very uncommon for employees.
