Pros

The District-enforced raises bump the pay up by several dollars. Unemployment checks when laid off or fired.

Cons

Bully upper management team. Obsession with the “No Fault” mentality for hiring and firing. Location-based Human Resources responds to the General Manager, not corporate. No paid lunch- you are forced to stay 30 minutes after your shift. American Airlines delegates all blame to subcontract companies, which results in quarterly performance reviews by AA, and the management team scrambles in then to delegate blame to employees for their own negligence. Management team elected by favoritism or nepotism over employee merit and suitability. A quarter of the workforce is Spanish-speaking, with little understanding of English. This American Airlines division of WFS Cargo Agents is not protected by any union. Evidence of several different forms of discrimination by the management team, and “tolerated by leads” counteracted by meetings with HR and personally handled by General Manager when threatened without preparation. Loss of benefits over the course of several years: 1. Sick days do not rollover. 2. Vacation days do no rollover. There is a lockout date for vacations that begins before Thanksgiving and ends after New Year’s Eve. Vacation days are enforced by management team. You lose your vacation pay if you don’t use it. 3. Sick and vacation days are paid at the reduced pay of $14 instead of the county-enforced pay. 4. CS (shift exchange/coverage) system modeled after American Airlines has gone from 10+ CS swaps down to 6 per month with no emergency CS. 5. If you call in sick, you meet with the management team and you will be subject to a write-up without a doctor’s note. 6. High turnover rate in several departments depending on the season and American Airline’s auditors. Outbound has the highest turnover rate and the highest number of employees fired. 7. Health insurance options are overpriced at $350+, and pulled directly from your paycheck. $7,000+ deductible and minimal coverage options. Lack of opportunity to move up in the company that doesn’t involve relocation. Upper management team usually remains long-term for family/retirement. Brunt of management team in a warehouse environment in general involves many individuals without an associates degree or certification. The quality of workers follows suit.

Thank you for your feedback regarding scheduling concerns. Our employee schedules are directly dependent on airline flight activity, and when airlines reduce their flights, we are required to adjust our staffing accordingly. This operational reality was discussed as part of the expectations during your interview process. If you are experiencing specific hardships as a result, please speak with your supervisor to discuss potential accommodations. We value your dedication and contribution to our team, and for additional feedback, please reach out to us at NAComms@wfs.aero
