Pros

Zoom is well known and is constantly looking to improve the product.

Cons

The culture is extremely lacking. There's very low representation of certain groups and a huge difference in the experience that the least represented demographics are having in comparison to their counterparts. There are quite a few managers and ICs that are tone deaf and painfully ignorant. I’ve had to have conversations about microaggressions, culturally offensive ideas, etc. with people in leadership positions who should know better. There isn’t a DEI team (laid off) nor any programs that welcome learning and open dialogue to ensure an equitable and safe work environment for all. The company doesn’t have leaders that understand these topics or know how to manage individuals that aren’t similar to them. There aren’t diverse recruiting teams, executives, or managers. Zoom hires based on commonality which is why certain demographics are very very low at the company. When they do hire these underrepresented demographics, it’s performative and to check off a box. This is the type of culture Zoom has cultivated and it’s very unfortunate.

Pros

Native C++ client Bar is low for being a domain expert - knowledge the average Silicon Valley engineer should have is somehow in short supply there, so it's easier to stand out Pay was OK, while it lasted

Cons

Repeated rounds of layoffs, with departed colleagues' work being heaped on those remaining, left everyone miserable and stressed and just waiting for when our turn is next. My boss actually announced development was shifting to "startup mode", and when I asked if that means more upside or flexibility or equity or any of the other reasons you may choose a startup over a large established company, the answer was, "no, just more work" (!?!) Serious culture and power divide between overseas and California based development teams. Zero career growth investment in employees; no training or conferences except those offered by Zoom. Fired entire DEI team CEO attended Melania's movie premier
