Great to Terrible

Pros

Not many but this section requires 20 words minimum so paycheck, health insurance, co-workers in my group, somewhat flexible work schedule, paid over time (most of the time).

Cons

I've been here for 7 years and watched Enercon go from great to terrible. It seems that almost every year they reorganize the company and they can just never get it right. The last reorganization was the worst. They added a lot of highly paid managers who are still here even after several blindsided rounds of layoffs. Some of the hardest workers Enercon had were let go instead. Layoffs were done by managers with no HR in site (I believe they should have been at each office when this occurred!). They underbid all projects and then we are stuck working on nonchargeable projects to get the work done. They waste time with ridiculous online training that 99% of the time has absolutely nothing to you with your job. They hold the whole "you are an employee owner" over your head when management wants something but leave you in the dark about office relocations, company resizing, and any other important issues that should concern the employees. Yearly raises are decided by upper management who have no clue who you are or how hard you work. They also seem to be very spiteful, you can do everything right all year but make one mistake and that is all they will remember you for when it comes time for reviews. I am not a disgruntled former employee, or an employee who was laid off, I am a currently employee who is just speaking the truth and has watched what once was a great company crash hard.

Worst job ever - Company is circling the drain

Pros

It's very hard to come up with any at this time. The only pro is that it's a paycheck for now.

Cons

Horrible management. No ability to plan ahead reasonably. They decide to reorganize and all they do is add more useless management. They treat the people who are actually trying to do the work terribly. No relevant training, no support, just meet the deadline and work as many hours as it takes. They waste the time you have with stupid training and testing tasks that usually have nothing to do with your job. They kiss the butts of awful, nasty clients that don't have a clue on how to do things.

Employee owned success

Pros

ENERCON is an adeptly managed, employee owned, full service engineering company with a remarkable record of growth and profitability. Few firms can match the performance and return to its employee owners. At the center of its success, is the long term experience and contractual relationships with energy and utility clients, as well as its diversification to other growing markets. Recently, like other firms, ENERCON has experienced market fluctuations and changes associated with the nuclear and the oil and gas industries. What makes ENERCON different is the financial stability, execution/management capability, as well as market reputation to ride thru these market perturbations to continue to grow. ENERCON is a great place to both start and refine your professional career. Like other places, challenging technical work exists with great supporting systems and infrastructure. However, the entrepreneurial spirit and drive for business and market success, provides a unique opportunity to hone diversified consulting skill sets. Also, the degree in which the company emphasizes decisions, communications and planning activities, centered on the benefit of clients and employee owners, represents a significant differentiator of ENERCON.

Cons

A primary con of ENERCON includes the structures and procedures that have evolved to serve the nuclear industry that have become more involved into activities for most markets and services. These systems sometimes erode the agility of the company and add to the administrative burden of management. The bright side of this condition is these procedures provide a solid foundation of quality that clients genuinely appreciate and return to purchase.
