Lacks Ability to Change

Pros

Most people are very nice which is synonymous with a Wisconsin culture. This means that it takes too long to get rid of dead wood and too long to promote people who are doing well.

Cons

Senior management espouses "no politics" whereas there is tons of politics. If you aren't located in headquarters, good luck. Nobody will notice you. There is zero investment in the independent businesses and when corporate needs to look good to shareholders, people are the first to go without regard to impact on the business. Businesses are purchased to run them into the ground. Don't expect any type of investment.

Pros

Decent benefits, friendly co-workers, tolerable work-life balance

Cons

So bogged down in bureaucracy and conflicting objectives it is next to impossible to get anything done. Decisions are made strictly from a financial perspective with no regard for doing the right thing to grow the business.

Once a good company now a resume builder at best

Pros

Your first 3 years you will be challenged and if you are good, you will be given a lot of opportunities. Eventually you will find that small group of managers at the corp level "pull all the strings" and if you are not in the "club" you will find that will not matter how good you are you will hit a wall.

Cons

Small group of "Leaders" run the show no matter what your title is. If you are bought by Actuant start looking for a new job or take the package. They are currently brining "Leades" from other companies, in reality failed Managers from GE, IR and other Milwaulkee based companies instead of growing the talent in the organizations they buy.
