Pros

- Coworkers: The people on my team are extremely bright and helping each other is second nature. There are plenty of companies where coworkers will try to backstab you and feed you false information, but Enova is as far away on that spectrum as possible. I feel comfortable going to anyone with a question, knowing they will help or point me to someone who would know the answer. - Culture: The idea of "best idea wins" is really taken seriously. Business leaders will listen to the freshest analyst if his/her ideas are good. I was able to show the advantages of an overhaul of one of our products and have it implemented within 3 months of working. Office attire is very laid back, hours are flexible. Great work-life balance. Of course there are still work deadlines, but the ratio of projects with flexible deadlines to hard deadlines is more like 2:1. Can't really beat that. - Perks: Kitchens stocked with food and drinks; Haircuts, manicures, massages, dry cleaning every month; Summer hours mean you can go home at 2PM on Fridays; Many many company outings: movies, happy hours, dinners, lunches, events at least twice a month. - Diversity: Many bright workers of all ethnicities and nationalities. Enova sponsors H1B visas, which is a big plus, especially for new grads stressed about being able to stay in the country without going to grad school. Around half of my team come from other countries. - Work: Assigned work can be exciting or mundane, but they really encourage you to pick up new projects, learn new skills as much as you can comfortably handle. Direct managers emphasize self goal setting, and frequently check in to see how you're doing. You also get a lot of exposure to departments outside of your immediate team. Update business leaders with ROI calculations, help Marketing target customers effectively, design product details with Strategy&Ops, work with Developers to implement the models you build. - Training: The Analytics team has tech sessions once a month. Members frequently go to conferences, and the director is the president of the local American Statistical Association, which are great chances to learn how other professionals operate and to network with them.

Cons

- Perks: Constant access to food can lead to weight gain; Haircuts, manicures, massages have limited spots so they fill up within 2 minutes of the monthly announcement; 401k matching is not great, company contribution doesn't vest fully until after 5 years. - Promotion process is a victim of having young and bright people with high expectations: I don't have the same gripe as some other reviewers. Getting promoted anywhere takes work, luck, and the good graces of your boss. Management has set guidelines on what's required at each level, but obviously they will be just necessary but not sufficient steps to promotion. There are plenty of examples of people here who have been promoted quickly, and nobody doubts how much work they've put in, but the list of requirements serves to just further tease those who expect to advance by checking a set number of boxes.

Pros

(Everything I write here only applies to the Analytics team) - Freedom with your time - you can manage your own hours - Freedom with tools/methods - if you can get the job done that's all that matters - To a small extent - best answer does win - you get to be heard - Lots of very smart people work in this team - The current batch is a fun, friendly, interesting group of people

Cons

Many, many of the problems here hinge on how well you get along with your boss - Promotions are kind of arbitrary - dependent on whether your boss likes you - I know folks who've been here years in the same role (doing valuable work), others who were promoted once a year two years running - One person was fired - thrown out on the same day with no notice or warning given - putting his visa status in serious jeopardy - again this was because he pissed off the wrong manager - this was after he pulled 48hour days keeping the company from going down the tubes - Pay is pretty abysmal for analysts - associates are better off but would still get paid more elsewhere - The quality of projects is largely uninteresting - mostly projects are maintenance - or hack and slash numbers, ad hoc pull requests. Good work happens, but it's rare and you have to fight for it - There's a lot of pressure to perform, long hours, which is okay - but the pay isn't balanced for the quality of work demanded - Unreasonable pressure to produce ROI - which is hard given that you don't control the projects you are assigned to - The gender ratio is beyond terrible - Bad karma: when you get right down to it - Enova is a corporate loan-shark. You think that you're removed from the day-to-day murkiness of it all, but the fact that you work for an evil corporate entity tends to percolate through everywhere. At the end of the day, when you work here - you make the world a worse place.
