Pros

Everyone at the company are so welcoming which makes joining a new company so much easier. The work environment is one of the best I've worked in and the company is very focused on making it an enjoyable place to work in. Real opportunity for career progression

Cons

Employee benefits, however I understand this is being worked on. Apart from that none at all. It's the best place I've worked.

Pros

Without a doubt the people are the best thing, they are less colleagues and more friends across the board. The support I’ve had from ‘non-management’ has been equal or exceeds the support I’ve had from elsewhere. When there is the buzz around the company, everyone is paddling in the same direction, fighting for the same things, there is genuinely no where I’d rather be. Don’t forget the relaxed dress code - “dress for the day you have”, and in software the flexible working hours and being able to work from home. The good days far outweigh the bad days. The potential for self development, promotions and pay rises are plentiful if you’re prepared to put in the hard work, be part of the team and get involved. With the set up of the company, you’ve got the chance to really be part of the picture. If you’re after a job where you want to go along for the ride and sit in the background, either expect to be in a standstill and watch people progress around you, or join Aviva. More often than not, your efforts are recognised, maybe not always as more money or a promotion, but maybe as winning an award at the summer or end of year parties in front of the whole company, or departmental award presentations or something as simple as a thank you! The senior management team are always approachable, the COO is incredible and is really the heartbeat of the company. She’ll learn your name from first meeting her, she leads from the front and sets a ridiculously high precedent on work ethic, drive and ambition, and she will make sure you know you’ve done a good job! The most recent CTO was quite possibly the best boss I’ve ever had - he protected you from any shell fire, gave thanks and recognition when deserved, got rid of nearly all the negative influences in the department, and was a thoroughly top bloke. P.S. putting in hard work doesn’t have to mean staying late. You may get asked to do extra, but it’s optional not mandatory, and when everyone does it, it builds a strong team who work for each other, not themselves. Obviously staying late does make you look better and gives you better chances of progression, but you can do this all in your regular working hours too!

Cons

It’s apparently quite easy for people to write a novel of cons about working here, but stay in the job regardless. If it was so bad, why are they still here bringing a toxic, negative vibe? This certainly brings down the spirit of the engaged and happy colleagues. Imagine going to a different department to help another colleague, and while you’re there helping all they do is tell you how bad the software is, that it’s always broken and how terrible you are at your job! Obviously this is a minority, and the majority are always thankful for your help and assistance. Management instability has been one of the biggest issues since I’ve joined. 3 different CTOs, 3 Heads of Software, 3 Heads of Product/UX, and 7 different direct line managers without me changing department, position or the area of the platform I work on. For a company who want you to build a career, having to restart with a new manager and senior leadership team every few months has been challenging, especially when they have different metrics, ideas and direction for the product and team! This stability issue isn’t just in the software team; marketing, accounts and service have also suffered from this. The ‘Award Winning’ training leaves most employees ill equipped to deal with the most basic issues of the software. It may teach them a lot on how to speak to customers but in general any manager in the support and sales teams have very little knowledge about the product and how it works, and the people on the ground only learn by doing when asked by the customer. The most talented support agents in all fairness pick this up quite quickly, and you see them rise through the ranks.
