Is this job for you?

Pros

Great clients, life-long friendships in co-workers, free waxing.

Cons

Your health and safety during a pandemic is the last concern. And if you're not comfortable with doing a service, either get a doctors note to excuse you, or you have to or your fired. If you're 34 weeks pregnant saying you cant work an 11 hour shift, they'll make you get a doctors note. They make you chose between your family and children or your job. Have your life planned out a year in advanced so you can give PLENTY of notice before needing off, or else NO CAN DO. Every conversation you'll have about anything, you'll have to sign a waver for, just to cover their butts. The employee handbook LITERALLY says, you as an employee are expendable and can and will be fired without cause or warning at anytime if need be. They don't offer health insurance because "its not worth it for them" but still require doctors notes for everything. There's is no discretion of personal matters between management and coworkers, so expect everyone to know your business and judge you for it. There is audio in all security cameras and the owners sit and listen to all your conversations, so be careful. Don't change your schedule. Ever. They don't want to have to bother with figuring out a new schedule, and trust me, even if they don't tell you that, they'll make you feel it. If they don't want you there anymore, they'll make it KNOWN. It doesn't matter how much you do extra around the job, doesn't matter how well you do there with clients, doesn't matter how much you love your job, they'll corner you and force you out when they want.

Pros

My team is amazing! Work life balance when properly staffed. Very supportive regional and franchisee. Good benefits and schedule.

Cons

It's all about the franchisee with this company. It has little to do with EWC as a whole as there is not much communication from corporate. Fortunately, I have an amazing owner, but I pity managers and centers with less supportive and knowledgeable franchisees. Wish there was more time managing; less time at the front desk.

Location Location Location

Pros

Built in clientele. Free waxing. In-house training. Supplies are provided. Fast-paced. People trust chain companies like EWC so you never have a day where you have zero people on your books, even if it's slow. When I was at a previous EWC under a different owner, we were given decent bonuses and my manager genuinely tried to work with everyone's schedules and worked with you to meet your goals. It's great exposure and experience. You'll become a pro at waxing very quickly.

Cons

I didn't have many cons until I moved and started working at a different location under a different franchisee. I went from making great monthly bonuses to absolutely none. There is no incentive to meet the numbers that are so hammered into our brains. We make such little commission. 5% services, 10% products. This is owner-controlled. We get no PTO. No paid maternity leave. No sick leave. Nothing. We get paid minimum wage hourly plus our tiny commission, and at the end of the day we rely heavily on tips. It's back breaking work. My current location does not offer lifts at the bottom of the bed that would keep us from having to bend over so low. We're standing on tile all day with no cushion. I see between 15-30 clients every day back to back with rarely any breaks between. Current ownership does not pay attention to what happens in-store on any level. Many of the waxers at my current location have not been properly trained as well as many of the front desk associates. This hurts business. We have run out of so many supplies on multiple occasions due to negligence. Running out of wax is unacceptable. Running out of tongue depressors is unacceptable. Running out of multiple products for WEEKS at a time and then holding a required meeting for everybody to scold them for not selling enough, is unacceptable.
