Pros

They will give first time coders a chance when most companies will not.

Cons

There is no training. Management don’t know how to code the work their employees work. If you have questions be prepared to wait sometimes months for an answer. Yet they have all the time in the world to hassle you about filling in excel spreadsheets, telling you what you still have outstanding, or ask/tell you your working OT so you can make up for someone else unwilling to work their share of work. Leads have clear favorites and good luck to you if you’re not one of them. Management does not want you in contact with the providers you code for which would only help build trust and relationships. Even though they expect you to wait months for answers they also do not want you asking for help from co-workers.

Pros

Great group of clinicians who are truly experts in their field and very supportive of one another.

Cons

Management would do better to lead from the front in a more clinical manner and show willingness to put themselves into the dilemmas and challenges field staff face on a regular basis. The staff's needs should come first and they would take care of the patients with great care because they are true professionals.

Pros

They take a chance on new coders.

Cons

Micromanagement is a way of life for the department. The "culture" of the organization is: Unless you are in direct patient care, you are worthless. Expect to be "thrown under the bus" at the drop of a hat by management. They bend over backwards to make providers happy, even using questionable reimbursement policies when a surgeon throws a temper tantrum. HR will act as if they care, but in the end, they are there only to protect leadership, and leadership is there to protect the bottom line. Expect to work "optional" massive over time, and to have your PTO denied. Or approved, but you'll be expected to take along a personal laptop and clock in at least some of the time. Productivity standards are vague, but you will be put on probation for not meeting them. Training is next to nothing, yet you will get in trouble for not knowing the workflows well enough.
